ABOUT THE MEADOWS
The MeadowsTrout Fishery was officially opened on15th July 2006,by the Minister for Agriculture, Mary Coughlan TD.
The lake is the brainchild of David Borland and was partially funded by Donegal Local Development Company. As part of an ongoing diversification project, David turned the low-lying waterlogged field into a top quality trout fishery, following consultation with Marine Harvest, The Fisheries Board, Duchas, Bord Failte and other relevant authorities. Planning permission was granted in February 2005, excavation began in May 2005 and a year later, The Meadows Trout Fishery was completed.
The development was carefully planned so that minimum disruption was caused to the natural nature resources already present at the site. The surrounding area has been planted with trees to blend in with the native foliage. A cobbled pathway, a bridge and walkway have been provided around the lake and this adds to the appeal for anglers. The lake has it's own island, which has been planted with native trees.
The lake itself is regularly stocked with top quality, hard fighting rainbow trout, ranging from 2-10lbs, giving the angler the opportunity to have a challenging days fishing.
A fishermans cabin provides on-site relaxation and refreshment facilities, with a microwave and gas ring should you wish to make lunch / dinner. there are also a number of picnic tables provided for your use and outside decking where you can sit and take a break whilst enjoying the stunning scenery.
